Usage Statement:
Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
Entrez Gene Summary:
The protein encoded by this gene is a cell cycle-regulated kinase that appears to be involved in microtubule formation and/or stabilization at the spindle pole during chromosome segregation. The encoded protein is found at the centrosome in interphase cells and at the spindle poles in mitosis. This gene may play a role in tumor development and progression. A processed pseudogene of this gene has been found on chromosome 1, and an unprocessed pseudogene has been found on chromosome 10. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.
Key Applications:
Western Blotting
UniProt Summary:
FUNCTION: SwissProt: O14965 # May play a role in cell cycle regulation during anaphase and/or telophase, in relation to the function of the centrosome/spindle pole region during chromosome segregation. Maybe involved in microtubule formation and/or stabilization. May play a key role during tumor development and progression.
SIZE: 403 amino acids; 45809 Da
SUBUNIT: Interacts with TACC1 and CPEB1. Interacts with and phosphorylates BORA.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Centrosome. Spindle. Note=Localizes on centrosomes in interphase cells and at each spindle pole in mitosis.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Highly expressed in testis and weakly in skeletal muscle, thymus and spleen. Also highly expressed in colon, ovarian, prostate, neuroblastoma, breast and cervical cancer cell lines. Expression is cell-cycle regulated, low in G1/S, accumulates during G2/M, and decreases rapidly after.
PTM: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.DISEASE:SwissProt: O14965 # Defects in AURKA are responsible for numerical centrosome aberrations including aneuploidy.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: O14965 ## Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. Ser/Thr protein kinase family. Aurora subfamily. & Contains 1 protein kinase domain.
