Descriptive Text:
c-Kit is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase that is expressed on various of cell types, including mast cells, hematopoietic progenitor cells, melanocytes, germ cells and gastrointestinal pacemaker cells. Activating or gain-of-function mutations in the c-Kit gene have been identified with many gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).
