Description:
Anti-Cytochrome P450 Side Chain Cleavage Enzyme, a.a. 421-441
Trade Name:
Chemicon (Millipore)
Specificity:
Reacts with amino acids 421-441 of rat cytochrome P450 side chain cleavage (P450scc) enzyme.
P450scc enzyme is the rate limiting enzyme controlling steroidogenesis. P450scc is responsible for the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone. The enzyme is expressed in all tissues capable of steroidogenesis, including the ovary, adrenal, testis, placenta and glial cells.

Entrez Gene Summary:
This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This mitochondrial protein initiates the degradation of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, the physiologically active form of vitamin D3, by hydroxylation of the side chain. In regulating the level of vitamin D3, this enzyme plays a role in calcium homeostasis and the vitamin D endocrine system.
Key Applications:
- Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin)
- Western Blotting
UniProt Summary:
FUNCTION: SwissProt: Q07973 # Has a role in maintaining calcium homeostasis. Catalyzes the NADPH-dependent 24-hydroxylation of 25-hydroxyvitamin D(3) in the presence of adrenodoxin and NADPH-adrenodoxin reductase.
