Description:
Anti-APG5
Trade Name:
Chemicon (Millipore)
Specificity:
APG5 [Autophagy-related protein 5, APG5-like, ATG5, Apoptosis-specific protein].
Immunogen:
Synthetic peptide corresponding to a region within the C-terminus of human APG5 protein.
Background Information:
Autophagy is the process by which cells recycle cytoplasm and dispose of excess or defective organelles. This process is suggested to be involved development, differentiation, growth regulation and tissue remodeling in multicellular organisms. APG5 conjugates to APG12 and this conjugate is required for elongation of the isolation membrane to form a complete spherical autophagosome. The APG5 protein may play an important role in the apoptotic process, possibly within the modified cytoskeleton.

UniProt Summary:
FUNCTION: SwissProt: Q9H1Y0 # May play an important role in the apoptotic process, possibly within the modified cytoskeleton. Its expression is a relatively late event in the apoptotic process, occurring downstream of caspase activity.
SIZE: 275 amino acids; 32447 Da
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm. Note=Colocalizes with nonmuscle actin.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Ubiquitous. The mRNA is present at similar levels in viable and apoptotic cells, whereas the protein is dramatically highly expressed in apoptotic cells.
PTM: Conjugated to ATG12; which is essential for autophagy, but is not required for association with isolation membrane.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: Q9H1Y0 ## Belongs to the ATG5 family.
