The Knockout Kit contains all the media components that are necessary to generate mouse ES cells used in gene targeting. Gene targeting is a technique that uses homologous recombination between an engineered exogenous DNA fragment and the targeted portion of the mouse genome resulting in a loss of function of the targeted gene. These modified ES cells are then injected into blastocysts where they incorporate into the inner cell mass and contribute to fetal development resulting in the production of "knockout" mice.
