21 kDa Calculated
Immunogen:
Recombinant human Erythropoietin

Isotype:
IgG2b
Background Information:
Erythropoietin (Epo) is a glycoprotein consisting of one 165-amino acid single-chain polypeptide with two internal disulfide bonds. When fully glycosylated, the molecular weight of Epo is approximately 34 kDa. Normally produced by the liver and kidney, Epo is the principle regulator of red blood cell production by stimulating the division and differentiation of bone marrow erythroid progenitor cells in response to anemia and hypoxia.

Key Applications:
Flow Cytometry
Entrez Gene Summary:
This gene is a member of the EPO/TPO family and encodes a secreted, glycosylated cytokine composed of four alpha helical bundles. The protein is found in the plasma and regulates red cell production by promoting erythroid differentiation and initiating hemoglobin synthesis. This protein also has neuroprotective activity against a variety of potential brain injuries and antiapoptotic functions in several tissue types.
