Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor, recombinant human

Description:
Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor, recombinant human
Trade Name:
Chemicon (Millipore)
Product Overview:
Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor (CNTF) is a potent neural factor that was originally characterized as a survivability factor for chick ciliary neurons in vitro. CNTF also has been shown to promote survivability and differentiation of other neural cell types. Recombinant Human CNTF is a 22.7 kDa protein containing 199 amino acid residues.
Usage Statement:
Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
Alternate Names:
CNTF
Descriptive Text:
Neurotrophic factors are important in the development and growth of glial cells and neurons. Some factors are synthesized and released by target cells, directing neural tissue to innervate the target. CNTF in its active form is a 23 kDa protein containing 200 amino acids and was originally characterized in vitro as a survival factor for chick ciliary neurons. Functions attributed to CNTF include: differentiation and survival of neural cells, including Purkinje cells and other GABAergic cerebellar neurons, damaged Dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra, neural crest cells and motor neurons, as seen in Parkinsons disease.
Gene Symbol:
  • CNTF
  • HCNTF
Protein Type:
Growth Factor
Presentation:
The sterile filtered solution was lyophilized from 5 mM NaP, pH 7.5 + 5mM NaCl.
Purity:
Greater than 98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analysis. Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per µg (1EU/ug) of CNTF.
Protein or Enzyme Type:
Neurobiology
Specific Activity:
The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent proliferation of human TF-1 cells is 50-150 ng/mL.
Storage Conditions:
The lyophilized powder is stable for a few weeks at room temperature, but best stored at -20°C. Reconstitute in 5 mM NaP, pH 7.5 to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at 4°C for 1 week or -20°C for future use. Reconstituted human CNTF should be stored in undiluted aliquots at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
