B, Ch, H, M, R, Fg IC, IH, WB Mouse Purified Monoclonal Antibody
Description:
Anti-Myelin Associated Glycoprotein, clone 513
Trade Name:
Chemicon (Millipore)
Specificity:
Detects Myelin Associated Glycoprotein (MAG) in immunohistochemistry on frozen sections, immunocytochemistry and Western blot (under non-reducing conditions). MAB1567 is useful for myelinogenesis and multiple sclerosis studies.
Molecular Weight:
100 kDa
Immunogen:
L2 epitope carrying glycoprotein extract of 1-2 day old chicken brain.
Clone:
Isotype:
Background Information:
Myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG),a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, is a membrane glycoprotein of 100 kDa, and is thought to be involved in the process of myelination. Axonal regeneration in the adult central nervous system (CNS) is limited by two proteins in myelin, Nogo and MAG. MAG has been implicated in the inhibition of nerve regeneration in the CNS.
Species Reactivity:
  • Bovine
  • Chicken
  • Human
  • Mouse
  • Rat
  • Frog
Species Reactivity Note:
Human, rat, mouse, bovine, chicken, frog.
Application Notes:
Western Blot:
20 μg/mL of a previous lot was used on western blot under non-reducing conditions only.{See Ellezam, 2003}

Immunocytochemistry:
5-10 µg/mL of a previous lot was used, methanol fixation required.

Optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user.
Control:
Rat hippocampus tissue, rat brain lysate, PC12 cells.
Quality Assurance:
Evaluated by immunohistochemistry on rat hippocampus.

Immunohistochemistry(paraffin):
Representative image from a previous lot.

Entrez Gene Summary:
The protein encoded by this gene is a type I membrane protein and member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is thought to be involved in the process of myelination. It is a lectin that binds to sialylated glycoconjugates and mediates certain myelin-neuron cell-cell interactions. Two alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
UniProt Summary:
FUNCTION: SwissProt: P20916 # Adhesion molecule in postnatal neural development that mediates sialic-acid dependent cell-cell interactions between neuronal and myelinating cells. Preferentially binds to alpha2,3- linked sialic acid (By similarity).
SIZE: 626 amino acids; 69069 Da
SUBUNIT: Binds to RTN4R (By similarity).
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P20916 ## Belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. SIGLEC (sialic acid binding Ig-like lectin) family. & Contains 4 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains. & Contains 1 Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain.
