Protein/Isoform Description:
Streptavidin is a small protein found on the surface of Streptomyces avidinii that specifically binds biotin with very high affinity; in fact, the streptavidin:biotin interaction has one of the highest binding affinities known. Streptavidin contains four biotin binding sites per protein. Streptavidin conjugates are very useful tools for purification and detection of biotin-containing proteins.
