The Rodent Neuron Differentiation Kit is a system designed for the optimal differentiation of neural stem cells derived from rodents into neurons. Included in the kit are two neural inducers that when added to the Neural Stem Cell Basal Medium (Catalogue No. SCM003) allows for the preferential differentiation of rodent neural stem cells to a neuronal lineage. Other components of the kit include reagents for the fixation and two antibodies for the immunocytochemical characterization of the resulting neuron population (mouse anti-βIII-tubulin for neurons and rabbit anti-GFAP for astrocytes).

The kit has been extensively validated on mouse cortical and spinal cord neural stem cells and on rat hippocampal neural stem cells. Using the Rodent Neuron Differentiation Kit, relatively pure populations of neurons (~70% βIII-tubulin-positive) are obtained. Very low levels of astroglial cells (<0.5%) are detected.
