Background Information:
The LSM14A protein is an Sm-like protein. These proteins have been identified in a variety of organisms based on sequence homology with the members of the Sm protein family. These proteins contain the Sm sequence motif, which consists of two regions separated by a linker region that varies in length and folds as a loop. The Sm-like proteins appear to form a stable heteromer detected in tri-snRNP particles, which are important for pre-mRNA splicing.
