Typical Standard Curve for Human S100B ELISA

Human S100B ELISA, EZHS100B-33K

Description:
Human S100B ELISA, EZHS100B-33K
Qty/Pk:
96-well strip plate
Product Overview:
EMD Millipore’s Human S100B ELISA kit is to be used for the quantification of human S100B in cerebrospinal fluid, serum and plasma. This kit has not been tested for cell culture supernatants.
Background Information:
S100B is a calcium-binding protein produced mainly by astrocytes in the central nervous system and has been implicated in the development and maintenance of the nervous system. Although the mechanism of S100B secretion is unknown, it appears to be affected by oxidative stress. At nanomolar concentrations (normal levels), S100B is able to protect neurons against glutamate toxicity. Glial damage or astrocytic reactions to neural injury (reactive astrogliosis) causes an increase in S100B to micromolar concentrations. High levels of S100B will further increase neuronal damage. High levels of S100B are considered a biomarker that could indicate damage or dysfunction of CNS.
Key Applications:
ELISA
Application Notes:
This is a same day assay

Protein/Isoform Description:
S100 protein is a dimer that can be composed of two α (S100A), two β (S100B) or one α and one β (S100AB) subunit. The precise function of S100 is not yet known, but S100 is a Ca2+-binding EF-hand protein and is thought to regulate cell growth and differenetiation, cytoskeletal dynamics and Ca2+ homeostasis. Although formerly thought to be brain-specific, S100 has been found in a wide range of tissues and transformed cells; presence of S100A in serum may provide a marker for cardiac infarction.
Standard Curve Range:
2.7 – 2000 pg/mL
Product Name:
Human S100B ELISA, EZHS100B-33K
