Description:
MILLIPLEX MAP Human TIMP Panel 2
Trade Name:
MILLIPLEX
Qty/Pk:
96-well plate
Product Overview:
Based on the Luminex xMAP multiplex platform, the MILLIPLEX MAP Human TIMP Panels enable you to explore the modulation of TIMP expression and the function of the MMP/TIMP balance in a variety of therapeutic areas. Human TIMP Panel 1 (TIMP-1, -2) is to be used for serum/plasma samples, while Human TIMP Panel 2 (TIMP-1, -2, -3, -4) has been designed for tissue/cell culture samples. Both panels are customizable, allowing you to choose the analytes that best fit your needs.
Background Information:
The MMPs (matrix metalloproteinases) are a family of zinc proteases responsible for the breakdown of extracellular matrix (ECM) in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development and tissue morphogenesis, tissue and bone remodeling, wound healing and angiogenesis. Normal MMP function is precisely regulated by endogenous protein inhibitors known as TIMPs (tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases), specifically TIMP-1, TIMP-2, TIMP-3 and TIMP-4. Although each TIMP has its own distinct profile of metalloproteinase inhibition, all inhibit MMP activity by forming a 1:1 non-covalent complex with an MMP, blocking substrate access to the MMP catalytic site. In addition to the inhibition of active MMP, TIMPs are involved in other biochemical and physiological functions, such as pro-MMP activation, cell growth, matrix binding, inhibition of angiogenesis, and the induction of apoptosis. Disruption of the MMP/TIMP balance can result in arthritis, cardiovascular disease, as well as tumor growth and metastasis.
