Product Overview:
Adult Hippocampal Arctic Ground Squirrel Neural Stem Cells (AGS-NSC) are isolated from the hippocampus of adult Arctic Ground Squirrels following hibernation. Both the isolated cells and the whole animals are tolerant of ischemic insult and reperfusion. Using these cells and related expansion and differentiation media, researchers can identify potentially novel proteins and genes key to neuronal tolerance, neuroprotection and neurogenesis. Millipore’s AGS-NSC can be used to screen drugs, genes and proteins for protective changes caused by oxygen and/or glucose deprivation. These cells can potentially identify future targets for novel stroke therapeutics. As stem cells, these cells can be used in transplantation studies using rodent stroke models to investigate tolerance to ischemic injury. The AGS-NSC Expansion Media Kit is intended for preliminary expansion of Arctic Ground Squirrel Neural Stem Cells.

AGS-NSC Expansion Media Kit contains serum-free AGS-NSC Basal Medium and AGS-NSC Supplement Kit. The Basal Medium supports the growth of these cells in a serum-free environment over a period of at least 2 passages followed by differentiation into neurons. The Basal Medium will support the expansion of the agsNSC when supplemented with the FGFb and B27 included in the AGS-NSC Supplement Kit.

Storage Conditions:
Each media kit consists of two components: a) a bottle of basal medium and b) a supplement kit containing various growth factors and/or components. Basal Medium should be stored at 2 to 8ºC. The special UV protective packaging protects AGS-NSC media from light damage, however users should take care to protect basal medium from extended exposure to light. Supplement kits should be stored at -20ºC or colder for up to 6 months. Do not use product beyond expiration date. Basal medium which has been supplemented may be stored at 2 to 8°C for up to two weeks. All components are guaranteed stable until the expiration date stated on the individual labels.
