Milli-Q® Ultrapure Water Purification Systems

       • Millipak Express 20 final filter for minimum ionic and organic contaminant release when used for sub-ppb analysis of volatile organics or endocrine disrupters
       • Pyrogard™ D UF filter reduces pyrogen levels in ultrapure water below 0.001 EU/mL and removes nucleases when connected to the outlet of a Milli-Q system

A Range of New Milli-Q Systems

Millipore has developed a range of Milli-Q ultrapure water systems designed to match specific water quality requirements. Each of the five new Milli-Q systems is designed to specifically target contaminants detrimental to particular applications such as HPLC, molecular biology and ICP-MS. The systems incorporate a high precision resistivity monitor that records conductivity or resistivity (compensated or not to 25 °C), and also feature a built-in TOC monitor with a 1 – 999 ppb detection range for accurate analysis of organics. Milli-Q resistivity and TOC meters are designed to take into account the suitability test requirements of USP 28-NF21. Validation and qualification services are available, and access to historical data via a computer interface is possible. All systems can be bench-operated, wall-mounted or bench-integrated for maximizing space requirements.

The Milli-Q Concept

Standard Purification Steps

All systems in the Milli-Q range employ a 3-step purification process:

Step 1:

Plug-in Q-Gard purification packs are tailored to the feedwater source to optimize the performance of downstream purification media to ensure consistent results.

Step 2:

Quantum application-specific cartridges remove ionic and organic contaminants down to trace levels.

Step 3:

Final purification of ultrapure water is carried out at the point-of-use by a pharmaceutical-grade, absolute 0.22 µm Millipak membrane filter that is recommended for most analytical applications.

Additional Purification Steps

UV Photo-oxidation:

The ultraviolet photo-oxidation process (UV at 254 and 185 nm) used in Milli -Q Gradient , Synthesis and Element Systems can effectively carry out the destruction of organic molecules, to reduce TOC levels to < 5 ppb, improving consistency and sensitivity in applications such as HPLC, IC, solid-phase extraction and UV spectroscopy.

Ultrafiltration:

Milli-Q Biocel and Synthesis Systems include a Pyrogard 5000 ultrafiltration cartridge for the production of pyrogen- and nuclease-free ultrapure water (<0.001  EU/mL), particularly important for life science or molecular biology applications.

Systems conform to European Union CE directives 89/336/CEE (electromagnetic compatibility) and 72/23/CEE (electrical equipment within certain voltage limits). All systems are manufactured in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified environments.
