Helicon SS50 Spiral Wound Ultrafiltration Modules

Description

Helicon SS50 cartridges are spiral-wound ultrafiltration membrane cartridges designed for the concentration and desalting of aqueous solutions of macromolecules. Helicon SS50 cartridges offer low cost for large membrane areas and are ideally suited for tangential flow filtration (TFF) systems intended for the production of large-volume pharmaceutical products.

Each Helicon SS50 cartridge is made by wrapping alternate layers of Millipore UF membranes and plastic separator screens concentrically around a hollow core. Product enters one end of the cartridge under pressure, flowing tangentially down the cartridge axis. Ultrafiltrate (salts, water, species not rejected by the membranes) flows through the membranes into permeate channels and spirals to the central core, from which it is removed. Retentate flows out the opposite end of the cartridge.

Typical Applications

  • Concentration and desalting of:
    – Proteins
    – Polysaccharides
    – Viruses
    – Other biopolymer solutions
  • Concentration and desalting of, and alcohol removal from:
    – Plasma fractions
  • Depyrogenation of solutions of low molecular weight compounds:
    – Media
    – Buffers
    – Reagents
