ChromaSorb Membrane Adsorber

ChromaSorb membrane adsorber, an innovative, single-use, flow-through anion exchanger, is designed to remove trace impurities – including host cell protein (HCP), DNA, endotoxins and viruses. This device provides the greatest levels of impurity binding at the highest salt concentrations for:

  • Monoclonal Antibodies (MAb)
  • Protein Purification

ChromaSorb membrane adsorber provides robust impurity removal over a wide conductivity range. The ability to reliably perform at greater salt concentrations significantly reduces buffer volumes. Compared to traditional column-based anion exchange resins, ChromaSorb membrane adsorber reduces:

  • Validation requirements
  • Capital equipment expenditures
  • Time and labor

The ChromaSorb membrane consists of:

  • Uniform 0.65 µm pore structure
  • Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UPE) membrane – coated with a cationic primary amine ligand for high binding strength for negatively charged impurities

This technology allows the membrane adsorber to bind impurities at salt concentrations well above the operating windows of traditional resins and membranes. This capability radically reduces buffer usage, minimizes product-processing times and alleviates buffer-tank bottlenecks.

Benefits

  • Improved process economics – robust strength of binding at high salt concentrations
  • Flexibility and efficiency – process is enhanced by a single use device
  • Manufacturing footprint – smaller than traditional anion resins and columns
  • Easy to use – at all sizes
  • Small scale – device designed to minimize use of feedstock during scaling studies
  • Scalability – member of linearly scalable family of devices
