EHS & Emergency Readiness
At Millipore, environment, health and safety (EHS) is an essential part of our corporate responsibility and commitment to the communities in which we operate. Our EHS Policy is a global commitment that ensures we operate to continually minimize our EHS impacts.
EHS Policy In Action
Our top priority at Millipore is the safety of our employees, contractors and visitors. We have developed a global incident reporting database to facilitate reporting and provide information used in root cause analysis to prevent incidents from recurring in the future. This database tracks injuries and illnesses as well as environmental issues such as spills. We have also used the system to house “near miss” data so that we can better address areas where there are hazardous conditions.
It is important to note that our increased reporting structure has also led to an (apparent) increase in the number of incidents occuring. We believe that the reality is that we are getting better at identifying them. Our root cause identification process, in combination with our Scorecard and supervisor training, has enabled Millipore to continually decrease incident severity.
In addition, our large manufacturing facilities employ EHS management systems to help reduce risks to employees and the environment. Learn more about our EHS management systems, including adherence to external standards.
Emergency Readiness
Being prepared for potential emergencies protects our employees and local communities, and ensures a continuity of supply to our customers. At Millipore, emergency preparedness begins with:
- Conducting site risk assessments to identify possible adverse events that might occur
- Developing appropriate controls to minimize those risks
- Maintaining highly trained emergency response teams
- Identifying and training site crisis management teams
- Training a corporate crisis management team
