Over the past year, Millipore has funded two extraordinary researchers for their critical stem cell investigations.

Dr. Jeanne Loring, PhD
Scripps Research Institute

Dr. Sangeeta Bhatia received the Millipore Seed Grant Fellowship for her groundbreaking research in embryonic stem cell differentiation. Dr. Bhatia will receive a total of $200,000 over the next two years. This award is a result of Millipore’s partnership with the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) and involves a $500,000 grant ($100,000/year over five years) to HSCI’s Seed Grant Program which provides early funding for innovative projects in any field of stem cell research. Harvard will send out an RFP for the next award in January 2010.

The Harvard Stem Cell Research Institute is a scientific collaborative within Harvard University established to fulfill the promise of stem cell biology as a basis for cures and treatments for a wide range of chronic medical conditions.

Dr. Jeanne Loring, was recognized for her innovative investigation of human pluripotent stem cells. Dr. Loring will receive a total of $150,000 over the next three years. The Scripps Research Institute was selected for its reputation as one of the leading institutes for stem cell research and its ability to attract renowned investigators such as Dr. Loring. Millipore will next consider stem cell researchers on the west coast in 2011.
