Millipore Foundation Sponsors Successful Matching Grant Challenge in Jaffrey, NH

Money to support purchase of “Jake’s Van”

The Millipore Foundation recently completed a $5,000 matching challenge to help raise funds for the Jacob Bergeron Memorial Van Project. The purpose of the project is to purchase a wheel-chair accessible van for the Jaffrey-Rindge School District. In May, 2005, a committee of local residents in Jaffrey, NH began raising money for Jake’s Van. As of September, 2006, when the Millipore Foundation launched its challenge, the committee had $13,000 in donations. After a Halloween dance and other fundraisers, the committee raised an additional $5,000 which the Millipore Foundation matched in February.

This project is being spearheaded by Kathy Moore, a teacher in the Life Skills Program, a curriculum for students with developmental disabilities, at Conant High School in Jaffrey. Jake Bergeron, who died in September, 2004, had been a student in the Life Skills Program. Moore reports that $30,000 is needed for a second-hand vehicle or $40,000 for a new one, but committee members are waiting to see how much they can raise before making any decisions about their purchase. With more than $23,000 now in the bank, donations for this project are still being accepted. Contributions may be sent to: Jaffrey Betterment Corporation/Jake’s Van c/o Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce, 7 Main St., Jaffrey, NH 03452.
