Polymer Types & Requirements
There are primarily two conditions required of any polymer selected for use by a membrane manufacturer. The polymer must be:
- Available in industrial-sized quantities
- Dissolvable in a solvent that allows it to be formed into a membrane.
Once the polymer is located, the next step is determining how to use that polymer to make the membrane. Millipore uses three different casting methods for making membranes, depending upon the type of polymer and solvent/polymer combination being used in the process.
