The CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein beta ( C/EBPbeta ) is themember of a family of related leucine zipper transcription factors that play importantroles in regulation of differentiation and inflammatory processes in adipocytes, liver,brain and other tissues [1], [2], [3], [4].

C/EBPbeta participates in immunological and inflammatory signalingregulation leading to the activation of transcription of a number of proteins, forexample of Elastase 2 neutrophil ( Leukocyte elastase ) [5], Chemokine(C-C motif) ligand 3 ( MIP-1-alpha ) [6], S100 calcium bindingprotein A8 ( Calgranulin A ) [7], and Macrophage scavenger receptor (108p22/MSR1(CD204) ) [8].

C/EBPbeta is essential for insulin signaling and adipocyte differentiation. Forexample, it activates transcription of Resistin, Adiponectin C1Q and collagendomain containing ( Adiponectin ) [9], Solute carrier family 2 member2 ( GLUT2 ) [10], and Fatty acid binding protein 4 adipocyte (A-FABP ) [11].

In addition, C/EBPbeta activates transcription of some fatty acid andcholesterol transporters: A-FABP [11], Cholesteryl ester transferprotein, plasma ( CETP ) [12], Apolipoprotein B ( APOB ) [13].

Role of C/EBPbeta in brain development and inflammation may be explained bystimulation transcription of Neurogenic differentiation 6 ( NEUROD6 ) [14], and Tachykinin precursor 1 ( Substance P ) [15].
