Introducing the EcoStand, First Bioplastic Product

Millipore is proud to be leading the industry in developing products and packaging made from renewable resources with our first biodegradable and compostable product, the EcoStand tube holder. The EcoStand device is made from a corn-based plastic resin and is an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional petroleum-based plastic.

Our logo on the EcoStand indicates that the product is biodegradable and compostable. The plastic resin used meets international standards ASTM D6400 and EN 13432 for compostable plastics, and ASTM D7081 and EN 17556 for biodegradable non-floating plastics in marine environments. It is fully biodegradable in active microbial environments, such as soil, home compost, industrial compost as well as fresh and salt water.

The EcoStand is a symbolic effort under Millipore’s global Sustainability Initiative to reduce our consumption of non-renewable resources, eliminate waste and adopt behavioral changes. The EcoStand device was created by the Danvers, Massachusetts-based research and product development team in Millipore’s Bioscience Division. The electricity used at our Danvers facility is completely offset with green-e® certified renewable energy. Our Danvers team is currently working on other product applications.
