Millipore Volunteers for Habitat for Humanity LEED® House

On Saturday September 13, Millipore employees EHS Engineer Tony Campana, Process Engineer Kristen Prescott, Graphic Designer Lauren Solomon, and Corporate Giving Representative Tara Duplaga donated their time and efforts to renovate a historic farmhouse on 130 North Road in Bedford. The project was part of the new partnership Millipore has formed with Habitat for Humanity Greater Lowell to provide affordable, energy-efficient homes to deserving families in the community.

The historic farmhouse is located on three acres of land. This is the first project from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell that incorporates green building design and techniques. The farmhouse is expected to receive certification under the Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) Green Building Rating SystemTM for Homes. LEED is the first nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings.

“I’ve been wanting to work with Habitat for Humanity for a long time,” says Lauren. “This was a perfect way for me to participate in a Habitat project while getting to know Millipore employees whom I may not have met otherwise. In addition, I was worried about not having any experience in construction, but my fears were totally unfounded; there is plenty to do regardless of your experience. I would definitely sign up again!”

In the coming months, Millipore employees will be volunteering on this project. For more information, please visit Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell (http://www.lowellhabitat.org).
