Currently, 40% of all marketed drugs are targeted to GPCRs, indicating their therapeutic importance. However, because of the limitations of traditional fluorescent GPCR assays, many potentially efficacious compounds have never been tested as GPCR agonists or antagonists.

To overcome this challenge, drug developers are increasingly turning to chemiluminescent GPCR assays. ChemiBrite Frozen Cells offer a non-toxic luminescent readout, in contrast to fluorescence dye-based assays that can cause cell death over time. In addition, luminescent measurement is not affected by the interfering background “noise” produced by autofluorescent cells or compounds.
