Ultrafiltration Scaling Strategies
Goals of the Step
Ultrafiltration steps are used to reduce batch volumes and exchange buffer systems for efficient column operation or final formulation. Economical operation at high yield requires robust high flux membranes with high product retention and efficient product recovery. Methods and Protocols

Scale-Up Strategies
When using Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) systems, careful planning and consideration of several system variables is required for accurate scale up from lab-scale operation to full-scale manufacturing. Process development starts by defining large-scale system goals first and prioritizing the variables. Then you can design the system to achieve the desired process performance. The process of moving from lab scale to full-scale manufacturing may require several steps so select a TFF device that is readily available at all scale-up sizes and suitable for your application. Linear scale up using Pellicon 2 and 3 cassettes is introduced as a technique that facilitates rapid, accurate and safe process scale up.
