A recent increase in some reproductive disorders and cancers has led to scientific concern and public debate over the potential for some common chemicals to disrupt the endocrine systems of humans and wildlife. Ultrapure water, free of EDC contamination, is a necessary component of the various testing strategies being developed and validated for these compounds. Water purified with a combination of technologies commonly used in Millipore water purifications systems, with the addition of a specific carbonaceous adsorbent at the final point of use, contained only negligible amounts of ubiquitous EDCs, such as phthalates and dioxins.
