Introduction to Filtration Principles and Operation

Overview (TRINTFILT - One day course)
During this one day course you will be introduced to the principles and steps in both normal flow filtration (NFF) and tangential flow filtration (TFF) operations.

The course emphasizes how understanding filtration principles can avoid production problems that may lead to increased costs and affect system performance.

Interactive workshops and demonstrations The morning workshop and demonstration shows how filtration systems are assembled and how the final membrane filter system is integrity tested. The afternoon session allows interaction with a basic TFF system, understanding the interactions between key operating parameters and module integrity testing practices. What will you be able to do after attending this course?

Understand how normal flow filters are constructed, how they are integrity tested and how they retain particles.
Understand how tangential flow filters are constructed, how they are integrity tested and how they work.
Understand the different steps required in the operation of a TFF system: preparation, process, cleaning, storage and why each is important.
Understand NFF and TFF basic concepts and terminology.

This course is designed for staff in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries who have little or no knowledge of normal flow and tangential flow filtration or integrity testing.

NFF filter types, construction and operation
Bubble point, diffusion, and product-based integrity testing principles practices
Basis of automatic integrity tests and testers
Demonstration - Manual diffusion and bubble point testing
Demonstration - Automatic hydrophilic filter diffusion and bubble point testing
Demonstration – Automatic testing of hydrophobic filters
NFF assessment

*Includes two coffee breaks and lunch.
