Overview (TRTFF03 - Two - day course)
This two-day course examines in depth the theory of tangential flow filtration (TFF) as well as the latest techniques to develop a TFF process. During a practical laboratory session you will determine optimum operating conditions using a model feed stream on a laboratory system to perform concentration and cleaning steps. Then, through a real-life case study you will design a TFF process with specific product purity objectives.
Interactive case study
Using data from a real-life case study, participants will develop a process from scratch to the final purified product, including:
- Membrane and module selection.
- Operating parameters selection.
- Procedure determination.
- Mass balance and yield assessments.
- System design.
- Introduction to process economics.
What will you be able to do after attending this course?
- Develop a TFF process with your specific success criteria.
- Execute a screening and optimization protocol.
- Generate and collect data to design a new TFF process.
- Conduct robust and compliant TFF process scale-up.
What will you receive?
- A full set of course notes.
- Protocol and results of laboratory sessions.
- The solution from the workshop showing the design of a production scale TFF process.
- A certificate of attendance.
Who should attend?
This course is designed for R&D scientists and engineers who are responsible for developing and implementing production scale TFF processes. Participants must have completed the “Introduction to tangential flow filtration principles and operation” course or have equivalent experience.
Hands-on practical section
The laboratory exercise takes place under full operating conditions using a simulated feed stream. It covers:
- Membrane installation.
- Flushing.
- Feed flow determination.
- Optimum trans-membrane pressure (TMP) determination.
- Concentration and recovery.
- Cleaning and normalized water permeability (NWP) measurement.
Day 1 *9:00 – 18:00
