Understanding Our Climate Impact
Measuring environmental impacts enables companies to understand and improve performance, and communicating that data publicly allows others to assess progress. To further demonstrate commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, in April 2007 Millipore joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders program. Through this program, Millipore committed to:
- Develop a companywide GHG inventory of the six major greenhouse gases (based on the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard developed by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development) and report progress annually based on detailed EPA protocols and guidance;
- Develop a corporate GHG Inventory Management Plan based on a detailed EPA checklist to institutionalize the inventory process; and
- Set an aggressive companywide GHG emissions reduction goal to be achieved over the next 5 to 10 years, which we plan to make public during the second part of 2007.
In June, we compiled our baseline GHG inventory (see graph), and included these data in our submission for the Carbon Disclosure Project annual survey, CDP-5.
Right now, we’re in the process of setting goals for reducing our GHG emissions, and expect to have these established by the end of 2007. Please visit us again later in the year to learn more.
