Water

Membrane manufacturing and cartridge testing require millions of liters of water annually, to ensure product quality and safety. Without compromising quality standards, we are reducing and reusing water whenever possible.

Examples:

Our Kankakee, Illinois site manufactures Probumin®, bovine serum albumin (BSA), one of the most extensively utilized proteins in the medical industry. Its availability, inherent stability, and ligand binding ability, makes albumin an essential component in the production of many therapeutic drugs and diagnostic tests.

This site used an average of 142 million liters a year – enough to fill about 140 Olympic size swimming pools - to cleanse acetone (a type of solvent) from its solvent recovery systems. By adding an “off” setting to the automated recovery system, we’ll reduce yearly water consumption by 56 million liters, about 39%, reducing water purchases by $100,000 per year.

Our facility in Cork, Ireland uses reject water from our reverse osmosis water purification systems to supply a cooling tower, which would otherwise use fresh potable water, saving approximately 58,000 liters per year.

In our Temecula, California facility, we have just installed waterless urinals in the men’s rooms— another example of a facility reducing its natural resource consumption.

See our Jaffrey and Cork local efforts for more examples.
