| Abstract Reproducible measurements of drug uptake, metabolism and toxicity require robustly functioning hepatic cells with stable, high expression of transporters and metabolic enzymes. Fulfilling this need are HepaRG™ cells. These widely published, terminally differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma cells have facilitated numerous studies of uptake, metabolism, and disposition of drug candidates. In this review, we describe the current uses of HepaRG™ cells and their position on the market as a hepatic model used by the pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics industries.
