Cardiac safety is an important consideration for profiling compounds in the drug discovery and development process. hERG screening alone is an insufficient measure for determining the true cardiac liability of a compound as many ion channels are involved in maintaining the integrity of the cardiac action potential. To reveal the true cardiotoxicity risk of a compound, it becomes necessary to employ a range of assays focused on the integrated assessment of cardiac risk. Toward this end, Millipore is pleased to offer a CardiacProfiler Service for compound liability testing using the IonWorks and PrecisION recombinant ion channel cell lines. The PrecisION cell lines were selected for their ability to provide consistent data using automated patch clamp technology, and are thus ideally suited to meet the rigorous standards required for liability testing in the biopharmaceutical industry.
