to remove conventional virus
particles1 was tested for removal of
PrPSc and TSE infectivity from a
model protein solution. Western
blot assay and animal bioassay
demonstrated at least a 4.0 log
reduction of PrPSc and infectiv-ity
after filtration. Partitioning of PrPSc
was not affected by protein
concentration or in the presence
of detergents while processed in a
tangential or a normal flow mode.
These data indicate size exclusion
filtration of biological products has
the potential to significantly reduce
the risk of TSE transmission.
